Freshmen year of high school rolls around for Sarah. Sarah is nervous and excited about playing junior varsity basketball for her high school. Going from 600 students in a middle school to nearly 1500 students in a high school feels scary and unknown to her. Her high school is twice the size of her middle school, where she played junior varsity basketball and was one of the top ten players on her 8th-grade team. At the start of 9th grade, Sarah weighs in at 125 lb. And grew an inch over the summer from 5’3 to 5’4. She worked out a lo at basketball camp over the summer by running, lifting weights, doing drills, and more. Even though Sarah is in great shape, she still had her inner voice telling her that she is still not thin enough, pretty enough, and that she could lose another pound or two to feel wanted and excepted. Summer was over, and Sarah could not wait to start 9th grade with her friends Kim, Hannah, Anna, and Kevin, but she still had to face the reality that she is not in a healthy relationship with food.
